The SEAI highly recommended that you get your oil boiler serviced once per year and we wouldn’t disagree.
An oil boiler service guarantees that your heating system is running at its optimum levels of efficiency and makes sure that no FUEL (and, to that
end, YOUR HARD EARNED CASH) doesn’t go to waste needlessly when your oil boiler is in operation.
A service of your oil boiler should ensure small problems which could potentially lead to expensive repairs being needed or a complete failure of your boiler in the future don’t
happen.
Listed below is an indepth oil boiler service checklist which is carried out by our
engineers while servicing your oil boiler.
What we do.
Visual Exterior Inspection:
- Check for oil leaks including the tank itself and all associated pipe work and fittings
found above ground level. - Check for visible damage in the form of corrosion on the oil boiler’s outer shell, flue,
electrical controls, piping and any other components.
Visual Interior Inspection:
- Check for cracks in the firebox and on the target wall (fire bricks act).
- Check Baffles and waterways for corrosion.
- Check interior of boiler for corrosion.
- Check flue and if fitted flue box.
- Clean and remove any soot or sulphur deposits inside the boiler.
Burner Checks:
- Check that the oil shutoff and fire valve is working.
- Check that Ventilation to the oil boiler room / oil burner are of sufficient size and are not
blocked. - Check for cracks and other forms of damage on the burner refractory.
- Clean and adjust (when necessary) spark electrodes.
- Clean the burner diffuser and air tube.
- Check the ignition transformer, porcelain electrodes and HT leads for cracks and
deterioration. - Check that the draught stabiliser is working properly.
- Check the flame photocell and clean it if necessary.
- Check and clean the oil boiler’s side heat transfer surfaces.
- Check that the limit and high limit thermostat is working properly.
- Replace nozzle.
- Replace oil filter
- Check the burner’s oil pressure and Air pressure
- Refit burner and all access chambers
In addition to the previous checks, the service engineer will also carry out a combustion efficiency test on the
appliance. This will ensue that the boiler is operating at its optimum efficiency.
Combustion Efficiency Tests
- Perform a flue smoke test
- Analise flue gas and adjust burner to optimum performance (manufactures guide)
- Providing a printout of the same
We keep a copy of your printout and service record of you boiler and system on our
portable computers so we can assess how your boiler is from year to year.
Please note that while this is what usually takes place in relation to an oil boiler service, not oil boilers are the exact same. Some systems might need certain specifics which
are slightly different to those outlined above. In all cases, it is considered best practice to
conform to the manufacturer’s guidelines when having an oil boiler service carried out.
It may also be necessary to perform a chemical clean of the interior of the boiler to which
all costs will be discussed with engineer on site.
No parts or extra work will be carried out without the agreement of the client and prices’
for same can be discussed on site
