Gas Boiler Service & Repair

As with all heating appliances, your gas boiler needs to be serviced once a year, as recommended by the manufacturers, to ensure that it is operating efficiently and safely. An efficient boiler is more environmental friendly leading to lower gas consumption, therefore lowering your bills.

The safety aspect is even more critical as a regularly serviced boiler will operate safely i.e. the gas will burn correctly, reducing the risk of emmissions of poisonous Carbon Monoxide and / or production of sooth.

No heat or insufficient heat?

  • Is the electricity supply to the system switched on? Check the fuse on the system isolator. If you change it, use a 3-amp fuse only.
  • Does the clock show the right time?
  • If it has a selector switch, have you selected 'heating'? (Is the clock light on?)
  • If you have a room thermostat, is it set to the room temperature you require? When a room reaches the temperature set on the thermostat the radiators will cool.(Raise the stat to Maximum)
  • If you have thermostatic valves, are they at the settings you require?
  • Is the natural gas turned on? We are encountering a number of calls where prepaid meters have run out
this in turn can mean you may have to try resetting your appliance a number of times once you have
    prepaid the meter.
  • If your boiler has a natural gas light, is it lit? Always relight in accordance with the instructions on the boiler. Instructions normally found on door or removable panel depending on appliance.
  • Is the thermostat on the setting you require? If so raise it up to assess if boiler is working.
  • If the radiator is hot at the bottom only or has arc of heat, you may need to 'bleed' it. If this is across all or
most of your radiators you may need a power flush.
  • Is the water pressure too low?
  • If your boiler is showing a fault refer to manufactures fault guide sometimes it’s just a matter of opening
    the filler loop

No hot water?

  • Is the electricity supply to the system switched on? Check the fuse on the system isolator. If you change it, use a 3-amp fuse only.
  • Does the clock show the right time?
  • Has the clock been on long enough for the boiler to heat the water?
  • If you run water while the clock is in an 'off' period the hot water isn’t replaced.
  • If you have a cylinder thermostat/thermostatic valve, is it set at the temperature you require?
  • Is the natural gas turned on? (As above)
  • If your boiler has a natural gas light, is it lit? Always relight in accordance with the instructions on the boiler. (As above)
  • Is the boiler thermostat on the setting you require?
  • In most houses you should have an Immersion Group in your hot water cylinder this can be used as a
temporary fix to get you hot water.
